Amitabh Bachchan introduces Urdu Ghazals of Swatantryaveer
Savarkar
Mumbai, January 2014
Amitabh Bachchan, one of the greatest actors of
Bollywood, also well known for his distinct voice, has now lent his voice to
introduce the gazals written by Swatantryaveer Savarkar during his life
sentence at Andaman in 1921. Manuscript containing these Urdu Ghazals was discovered by Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak. These gazals,
alongwith other songs were recorded in the voices of renowned singers from
Bollywood.
Amitabh Bachchan's voice has truly captured the patriotic
sentiments penned by eminent writer-director Ved Rahi and has perfectly
complemented Veer Savarkar's songs.
Ranjit Savarkar, Chairman, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, said “We are extremely
grateful to Shri. Amitabhji Bachchan for rendering his enchanting voice to
introduce these songs. His voice truly enlivens the spirit and passion in which
the great freedom fffighter has expressed his love
for the motherland “.
Ranjit Savarkar presented a copy of Veer Savarkar's
famous memoirs of his days and plight at Andaman 'My Transportation for Life'
and a replica of manuscript in which the latter penned the verses in Andaman, to Shri.
Amitabh Bachchan. Same day Shri Amitabh Bachchan twitted :-"Incomprehensive to fathom
what freedom fighters went through to gain independence for nation …! Are they
acknowledged enough? Had visited Andaman
island, Kala pani and the prisons where freedom fighters were kept. Atrocious
stories of their Torture!".
